Macchu Picchu- Lost City of the Incas

Macchu Picchu  - Lost City of the Incas

Leaving at 7am the bus is a switch back ride up a really steep slope, the mist swirling through the mountain with tantalising glimpses across the valley and down to the Urubamba River.
Looking for Pedro and the orange flag  - our guide for the two hour tour before we could relax and ramble through the ruins. I thought the bus trip was steep but 16 flights of steps in high altitude was a serious test of determination.
All of a sudden – there it was… and we were transfixed! It was such a silent and awe-inspiring moment.

There are many theories about the Lost City of Macchu Picchu. They believe it had only 400 inhabitants and was a royal retreat and an exclusive place of education for the higher classes and an attempt to preserve Incan Culture. It was deserted during the Spanish Invasion and only discovered by chance in 1911. That’s it for the history lesson.

12.00 was the start of my official birthday in Australia and gorgeous Thommo had the typically perfect humourous birthday card to present along with a great card from my Mum …and a picnic lunch with the most spectacular scenery I have been dreaming about for 20 years!

an unforgettable perfect day spent with my best friend !!!
