Denise arrives for her Colombian Adventure

and we hit the cobbled streets of Cartagena running to the nearest ceviche restaurant. This tiny seafooder had crab ceviche and unconventional prawns with mango, passionfruit, garlic butter, mozzarella and white wine. Yum!

Didn't use a map. just roamed the maze of  seventeenth  century alleyways in the old walled city. It was hot, hot, hot!

Had plenty of energy so didn't need to take a sulky ride around the Unesco World Heritage Site.

The clocktower dominates the entrance to the old city.

The whole place resembles an old film set.

I feel like I am in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Life In The Time of Cholera.

Local characters bob along against a backdrop of ostentatious colonial churches,

magnificent municipal buildings.

some crumbling balconies.

others meticulously restored.

and striking bougainvillea - draped mansions.

The vibrant clash in  colours of the exteriors of the quaint houses

are an artist's delight.

A five star fix is needed and the doorman of the Santa Clara Sofitel  welcomes us.

The entire hotel was built within the walls of a convent and inside are original cannonballs used as doorstops and a mini museo of cracked Pre-Colombian artifacts.

La Cevicheria was where Anthony Bourdain dined and thankfully the delicious meals and cocktails are reasonably priced.
