Iquitos - down The Amazon River

Iquitos is one of the last frontiers on the Amazon and only accessible by river or air. The Amazon was in flood and the water levels were over 10 metres higher than usual when we arrived. Flying through thick cloud and then suddenly there it was!

The Yellow Rose Of Texas is a famous bar full of a collection of skulls, snakeskins, memorabilia and people who have lived in isolation for quite a while.

Tuk tuks are the major form of transport around Iquitos

The local bus made from timber .. and no windows!

Old colonial buildings in need of some renos!

Views of the Amazon from the town of Iquitos

There are 21 different tribes of Indians who inhabit the Amazon Basin - the museum  had life size models  of them all.

This one has see better days! Left to gather mould on the tarmac!
